Gearing up for the start of my wedding season and I couldn’t have asked for a better couple to start it with! Or a better wedding for that matter. Sarah is the sister of my dear friend and previous bride, Susan who has to be one of the kindest, most thoughtful people I know and Sarah is just like her sister. Not only will it be a family and friends reunion, a lot of the team working this wedding are the same from Susan’s wedding so it’s definitely going to be fun!
I have to admit that Sarah and James’ engagement shoot took a few tries before it actually happened, mainly because of the terrible never ending winter we had (here in Toronto) and also because they had 5 months to plan their wedding, no biggie right? Well what happened was Sarah and James found their dream wedding location, which was the gorgeous Holcim Waterfront Estates but they only had 2 dates left available for 2015, one in May and the other one in October. They took the one in May, go big or go home right? Wedding planning will always be a little crazy no matter the length of the engagement, at least this way they get to be married sooner!
So for their engagement shoot, we wanted a spot that was natural and pretty and since spring was taking it’s time and there really wasn’t any greenery or blooms anywhere we decided to go the Bluffs for it’s beautiful cliffs, neutral palette and calming surroundings. Sarah and James are both so easygoing that this felt right and really complimented their personalities. We kept their outfits in the same colour palette and created a really relaxing and happy engagement shoot.Sarah and James also brought along a couple of their favourite things to add some of their personal touches to their shoot, some pretty blooms and a bottle of Californian wine.
Sarah also had her make-up trial done the same day with her lovely make-up artist Karen Kim, which I highly recommend (both the trial and Karen)! It’s great to be able to see what your make-up will look like on your wedding day in photos. It will feel a lot heavier in person even if it’s a natural look compared to in photos so it’s nice to have some time to get used to it, especially if you’re not used to wearing make-up. Then after you see your engagement photos it can help you decide if you want to keep your make-up the same or go a little lighter or heavier.
It’s been a whirlwind getting these two to their wedding day but where’s the fun in a straight forward, no twists and turns planning of a wedding? They will have so many memories to hold on to and it’s just the beginning for their lives together. It’s all coming together tomorrow and I know there will be so many wonderful, happy and teary moments that I can’t wait to capture!
